lycanitesmobs.nephrite.uk/Quaint sent me a link to this mod. I don't know much about it other than the mobs look bad ass and the mod developer has an open policy with mod packs. Should we put it in a future modpack update? The only concern I have is whether any mobs break blocks, which I'm looking into.

These look really cool, add a sort of Monster Hunter feel to it with the big monsters. My only concern is that it'll make things a bit too crowded or difficult, and some of them look like they could cause some major lag. And, of course, just have to make sure it doesn't interfere with other mods. I'd definitely recommend trying it out first, but it looks like an epic addition!
EDIT: I'm looking through the mobs and jotting down any that grief. -Nether Soul: Explodes on death. May not be a problem, especially since it's confined to the Nether. -Lobber: BIG griefer, all projectiles spawna lava source. -Ettins: Attacks bust any soft materials (dirt, planks, etc.)
And Erepedes and Uvaraptors look like the ultimate steeds.

Hm. With some config revisions to prevent griefing and such, I think we could try it - we're pretty void of a playerbase right now. I mean, on one hand, I think they'd have the potential to make things more interesting and balanced, but on the other hand they could make starting out really hard. We'll see.

yeah, I'll download it and see what config options have to offer. If we can't change the griefing aspect of certain mobs I think that'll be the end of consideration, for me.

So I took a look at this mod and there are a lot of mobs and items that break blocks/set things on fire/drop lava and water, etc. etc. There's even new types of fire that spread faster or do more damage. SO... I'm not really sure we should add this mod if all we're looking for is new mobs.

Yeah, it definitely needs some hardcore config changes. I played with it for a while, but there were a ton of config file to mess with, and my client kept freezing up(not sure if related to Lycan's though). The author seemed to be a pretty helpful guy when I checked his forum thread a while ago, though. I may go on there and ask if anyone has a set of altered configs we can borrow for the whole anti-grief deal.

Not a bad idea. I definitely like the mobs and it looks like the configs allow for a lot of changes to be made, so I'm assuming it can be set to anti-griefing, but I'm not gonna go through all those configs just yet.

Good news, everyone! Mobs from this mod respect the mobgriefing gamerule, according to Lycanite upon being asked about it: "Hello there. This mod looks really good to put some balance into a server where everyone's got Metallurgy and TiC equipment, but I've got a couple of questions: -Do the mobs from this mod respect the mobgriefing gamerule being turned off? -If not, does anyone have altered configs I can use that makes them not grief/make the ones that grief not spawn? Griefing or not, props to Lycan for making a mod like this. This is really great " "The greifing rule is indeed respected, each mob can be greatly configured too! "

Excellent! Now we just have to play test and implement the mod. From what I could tell from watching some more advanced gameplay, it's a pretty significant overhaul, so we need to make sure we can accommodate it. Also, we should probably make sure it doesn't lag the server too bad, because there's significantly more "meat" to these mobs (particularly their models)

It's also twice the size of the modpack we're putting it in. xD
