I've gotta say, I'm really impressed with this server. And I don't mean that lightly; as the name of this server suggests, this place is absolutely massive in scale with more to do between just Tinker's Construct, the Twilight Forest, Metallurgy, and the gargantuan adventure and survival worlds than one can imagine. I've found this to be, easily, the biggest and best survival server I've played on, surpassing even large game servers like MineZ in enjoyability. Since Master_Manan introduced me to this server back in Spring, we've been playing every week for hours and have only just begun to look for more to do. We have noticed, though, that there's been a decline in activity, and that the server feels a little bit underpopulated for its size in terms of users and stuff to do in the adventure world. We mean this by no means as a criticism; we are expressing our interest to see this server grow and augment its community.
In exploring the adventure world, I always find myself impressed with the sheer magnitude and quality of the builds. There are awesome structures and settlements everywhere (that isn't wilderness), and the dungeons are top-notch. The world gives off an imposing and gargantuan feel, and it can be quite epic when considering the dungeons. The slime dungeon, abandoned mineshaft, swamp tower, and especially Xerox's Lair (dear god that place is awesome) are all expertly made and pose a very real challenge and amusement to the level of player they are intended for. However, as much as the world is awe-inspiring, it cannot shake a vibe that is very ghostly and hollow. The world feels like it has too little to fill a large space, with massive unattended settlements and semi-oblivious NPCs. Especially when seeing the amount of effort that went into this world's creation, it feels like one is exploring a long lost civilization more than a vibrant world. Don't get me wrong; Skytopia and Spawn are VERY rich places, but places like Moffet Airfield (I like the new rest area there btw), this huge underwater nature dome thing, Snow City, the old staff houses, and the like are hauntingly empty. By no means do we mean this as an accusation that nothing gets done around here. As I mentioned before, there is a great amount of things to do already, and the world in impressive. It just seems odd that such a huge world would go largely unaddressed, especially after so much effort was put in building. I know that Dren has been pretty busy lately, and he's expressed his aspirations for the world, but I feel like the "void" would be filled if there was a community to not only populate the world, but push it further and collectively work on and look forward to it. I see that Drenin has been doing a lot of the work lately when he can, and it almost feels like its for the sake of creativity, Manan, and I. I haven't seen anyone but us three in, well, months. Perhaps with some more hands and a caring community, the world would prosper more.
This goes for the survival world too, maybe even more so, as a community = towns, trading, adventuring and stuff that can happen. My personal dream is to have at least a small community of people who would advance with the plethora of thing to do in the survival world and Twilight Forest, while looking forward to the advancement of the adventure world on behalf of the staff.
Finally, I'd like to address the lack of users online. I have my suspicions that this is largely due to a config issue, which is discussed in its respective thread. Without going into the details, I believe a majority of potential players are having a hard time logging in. Whenever I see someone log in, they are immediately logged out. And judging by the fact that 22 Guests visited this forum today, I think a bunch of potential users are being missed out on. I realize the server is not able to hold high traffic right now, but perhaps with a community to care for it and possibly donate ( I know I would), it could work its way up. Even if the playership remains small, I'm confident only good can come from more players.
Manan and I aren't trying to break Drenin's back here. He's a busy guy, and we are in no position to demand anything from him. We're proposing the opposite: we come together to work on the server and slowly fill up Supermassive.
To reiterate, we think it would be prudent to:
1) Address user issues.
2) Promote a community.
3) Expand as a result of the community
